A nurse CV for the Gulf does two jobs at once. It has to convince a hospital recruiter that you are a safe, experienced clinician, and it has to match the documents that a health licensing authority will check line by line. If your CV says "ICU β 4 years" but your experience certificate says "Medical Ward", the mismatch can stop your licence, not just your interview.
This guide explains how to write a staff nurse CV for Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain in 2026: the format, ready clinical bullet points, the licence steps every Gulf nurse goes through, and the Indian rules that decide who can recruit you. How Gulf hospitals read a nurse CV
Gulf hospital recruiters, whether in a government hospital or a private group, look for four things on the first page:
- Your registration β the nursing council you are registered with, your registration number and validity.
- Your unit β ICU, NICU, OT, ER, dialysis, medical-surgical ward, oncology. Specialty units are in high demand and are paid better.
- Bed size and hospital type β "500-bed tertiary care, NABH accredited" tells the recruiter far more than the hospital name alone.
- Years after registration β most employers count your experience only after you were registered as a nurse, not your training period.
Put these four in your header and summary. Everything else can come after.
The nurse CV format, section by section
Keep it to two or three pages, in reverse chronological order:
- Header: full name as in passport, "Registered Nurse β ICU" (or your unit), phone with country code, email.
- Passport and personal details: passport number, issue and expiry dates, date of birth, nationality, ECR or ECNR status, marital status. Gulf employers expect these.
- Professional summary: three lines β years after registration, units, hospital type and your strongest skill.
- Registration and licences: state nursing council registration with number and validity; any Gulf licence or eligibility already obtained (for example DHA, DOH, SCFHS, Qatar, Kuwait or Oman), with status.
- Clinical experience: hospital, city, country, unit, bed count, dates (month and year), and five or six bullet points.
- Education: B.Sc Nursing, GNM, Post-Basic, M.Sc β institute, university and year.
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, with expiry dates.
- Skills: clinical procedures, equipment and the hospital information system you used.
Clinical bullet points that work
Recruiters trust numbers and specific procedures. Adapt these to your own unit and write only what you have done:
- Provided care for 2 ventilated patients per shift in a 24-bed medical ICU, including suctioning, ABG sampling and ventilator alarm response.
- Managed central lines, arterial lines and infusion pumps, and followed the hospital's CLABSI prevention bundle.
- Administered high-alert medicines with double checks and documented in the electronic medical record.
- Responded to code blue calls as part of the rapid response team, holding valid BLS and ACLS.
- Educated patients and families on discharge medicines and wound care, reducing repeat queries after discharge.
- Took charge of the shift for 12 beds when the charge nurse was off duty, assigning patients and handling handover.
If you trained new nurses, mention it. Gulf hospitals value nurses who can precept and lead a shift.
The licence steps every Gulf nurse goes through
Each Gulf country has its own health licensing authority β for example the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in Dubai and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) in Saudi Arabia β and a licence from one is not automatically valid in another. The order of steps is broadly similar, though:
- Create an account on the authority's portal and check how your qualification will be classified. For Saudi Arabia this is done on the Mumaris Plus portal, and DataFlow's own guide for SCFHS applicants advises reviewing your classification there before you start (DataFlow β SCFHS reference kit).
- Primary source verification by DataFlow. DataFlow contacts your college, university, nursing council and past hospitals directly to confirm your documents. The same kit lists clear scans of your passport, degree or diploma and licence certificate as the basic documents, and a fee range for a new non-physician licence.
- Eligibility and the licence exam. After review, eligible nurses book the authority's licensing exam, usually through Prometric or a similar test provider.
- Licence or registration. Once you pass and the verification is clear, the authority issues your licence or registration, often linked to a job offer.
This is why your CV must match your documents exactly. DataFlow will call the hospitals you list. If a date, a unit or a job title on your CV is different from your experience certificate, fix the CV before you apply, not after the verification report comes back.
Fees, exam rules and processing times change often. Check the authority's portal before you pay anything. Last checked: October 2026.
The Indian rules every nurse should know
If your passport is ECR and you are going to an ECR country, which includes all six Gulf countries, you need emigration clearance before you travel (our ECR and eMigrate guide explains it). India also put special rules on nurse recruitment for these countries in 2015, moving it to government-approved state agencies to stop fraud, and later extended the curbs to other women workers with ECR passports (Gulf News). The list of authorised agencies has changed over time, so check the current rules in the Ministry of External Affairs' own answers on overseas recruitment (MEA β FAQ on recruitment from India) before you deal with any recruiter.
Two simple safety rules: never pay a private agent who asks for money to "get you a Gulf nursing licence", and never hand over your original certificates to anyone except the authority or the verification company.
Mistakes that stop nurse applications
- Counting training as experience. Count only the years after your nursing registration.
- No unit or bed size. "Staff Nurse, City Hospital" is weak. "Staff Nurse, 30-bed Surgical ICU, 600-bed tertiary hospital" is strong.
- Expired BLS or ACLS. Renew before you apply. Many Gulf hospitals will not interview without a valid BLS.
- Gaps with no reason. Maternity leave, family care or exam preparation are normal. Write one line about it.
- CV dates not matching experience letters. This is the biggest cause of verification delays.
Interview: what Gulf hospitals ask nurses
Expect clinical scenario questions, often from a nursing director:
- A post-operative patient's blood pressure drops suddenly. What do you do first?
- How do you prevent medication errors with high-alert drugs?
- Tell us about a time you handled a difficult patient or family.
- What infection control steps do you follow for a patient on contact isolation?

FAQ
What is the best CV format for a nurse applying to the Gulf?
A two-to-three page reverse-chronological CV that starts with your registration details, unit and years after registration, followed by clinical experience with bed size and unit, education, BLS/ACLS and skills.
Do I need DataFlow verification to work as a nurse in the Gulf?
Gulf health authorities use primary source verification for nurses, and DataFlow is the company that runs it for authorities such as SCFHS. It checks your degree, registration and experience directly with the issuers.
Is a Gulf nursing licence from one country valid in another?
No. Each authority issues its own licence, so a DHA licence does not let you work in Saudi Arabia without an SCFHS licence, and the other way round.
Can a private agent recruit me as a nurse for the Gulf?
India has placed special rules on nurse recruitment for ECR countries, routing it through authorised government agencies. Check the current list with the Ministry of External Affairs before you deal with any recruiter.
