Nurse Salary in Dubai 2026: DHA Licence, Pay and CV Guide

Nurse Salary in Dubai 2026: DHA Licence, Pay and CV Guide

Nursing is one of the few Gulf jobs where the licence matters more than the CV. A hospital in Dubai cannot put you on the ward until the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has licensed you, so the real question for most nurses in India, the Philippines or Pakistan is not only "how much will I earn?" but "how long until I can start?". This guide covers both: realistic 2026 pay, how the DHA licence works step by step, what changes your package, and how to write a CV that hospital recruiters shortlist.

Nurse salary in Dubai in 2026

Nurse salary comparison: India vs Dubai

There is no single official salary table for nurses in Dubai. Hospitals set their own pay, and published figures come from consultancies, job ads and salary sites. Read them as ranges, not promises.

  • Entry-level registered nurse: about AED 7,000–12,000 a month, according to Neelim Healthcare Consulting's UAE nurse salary guide.
  • Experienced and senior nurses: guides such as DrExpat's 2026 UAE nurse salary overview put senior staff nurses at roughly AED 14,000–18,000 a month.
  • Low end of the market: some agency job ads in Dubai still advertise AED 3,000–8,000 a month, usually for smaller clinics, home care or assistant-level roles. Check the job title carefully: "nurse assistant" and "registered nurse" are different licences and different pay.

Salary in the UAE is not taxed, and many hospitals add housing (or a housing allowance), transport, medical insurance and an annual ticket home. Two offers with the same basic pay can be worth very different amounts once these are counted, so always compare the full package.

Last checked: October 2026. These are reported ranges, not guaranteed offers.

How Dubai pay compares with India

In India, nurse pay depends heavily on whether you work for the government or a private hospital. A 2026 staff nurse salary benchmark lists a junior private-sector staff nurse at about ₹24,000 a month in hand, and a nurse with 2–5 years at about ₹42,600. Central government posts (AIIMS and similar) start at Level 7 of the pay matrix, with basic pay of ₹44,900, which is why many experienced government nurses are less keen to move.

For a private-hospital nurse with two or three years of experience, an entry Dubai offer of AED 7,000–12,000 is several times their Indian pay before benefits. The trade-off is the licence cost, the time it takes, and living costs in Dubai. Use our cost of living calculator and currency converter to see what an offer is really worth before you accept it.

What changes your package

Nurse salary in Dubai by specialty

Five things move a nurse's offer up or down in Dubai:

  1. Specialty. ICU, emergency, operating theatre, NICU and dialysis nurses are paid more than general ward nurses because fewer candidates hold those skills and certificates.
  2. Licence status. A nurse who already holds an active DHA licence (or has passed the exam) can start quickly, and hospitals pay for that.
  3. Qualification. A BSc Nursing usually opens more doors than a diploma (GNM). Some employers require a BSc for registered nurse posts.
  4. Hospital type. Large private hospital groups and government-linked hospitals usually offer fuller packages than small clinics.
  5. Certificates. Current BLS is expected; ACLS, PALS or NRP add value in critical-care roles.

The DHA licence, step by step

Third-party guides such as Careers360's DHA registration guide describe the same order of steps. Always confirm fees and eligibility on DHA's own Sheryan portal before you pay anything.

  1. Create a Sheryan account. Sheryan is DHA's online licensing system. Registering gives you a DHA unique ID.
  2. Primary source verification (DataFlow). DataFlow checks your degree, registration and experience letters directly with the college, nursing council and hospitals that issued them. You need a positive result to continue. This step often takes the longest, because it depends on how fast your old institutions reply.
  3. Eligibility and exam booking. Once DHA approves your eligibility, you book the computer-based exam with Prometric. There are no fixed exam dates; Prometric runs the test through the year.
  4. Pass the exam. The registered nurse exam is multiple choice and covers clinical knowledge and patient safety. Practise with recent question banks rather than old notes.
  5. Licence issue. After passing, the licence is activated when a Dubai healthcare facility employs you.

Fee figures quoted online do not agree, so budget for verification, exam and licence fees together and check the current amounts on Sheryan. Licences in Abu Dhabi (DOH) and the northern emirates (MOHAP) are separate systems, so pick the authority that matches the city where you want to work.

Visa and joining process

Once a hospital offers you a job, it sponsors your UAE work visa. The usual sequence is: signed offer letter, work permit and entry permit, arrival in the UAE, medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics, and finally residence visa stamping. Keep your passport valid for well over a year and keep attested copies of your degree and experience certificates, because the employer and DHA will ask for them again.

If you plan to bring your family, most 2026 guides, including Wego's UAE family visa guide, put the threshold for sponsoring a spouse and children at AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with employer-provided housing. Confirm the current rule with GDRFA or ICP before you apply.

A nurse CV that hospital recruiters shortlist

Hospital recruiters in the Gulf scan for four things in the first few seconds: licence status, specialty, years of experience, and the size of the hospitals you worked in. Put them at the top.

  • Licence line: "DHA licence: active" or "DHA exam passed, licence pending employment" or "DataFlow in progress". Never leave it out.
  • Specialty and units: for example "ICU nurse, 18-bed medical ICU, 1:2 nurse-patient ratio".
  • Numbers: beds, patients per shift, procedures you assist with.
  • Certificates with expiry dates: BLS, ACLS, PALS.
  • Keywords: patient assessment, medication administration, infection control, clinical documentation, care planning, patient safety, electronic medical records.

Keep it to two pages. Use our free CV templates or practise common questions with the interview questions tool.

Common mistakes

  • Applying before starting DataFlow. Start verification early; it is the slowest step.
  • Hiding a diploma behind vague wording. Recruiters check, and DataFlow will show it anyway.
  • Paying an agent who "guarantees" a licence. No agent can guarantee a DHA exam result.
  • Comparing basic pay only, instead of the whole package.

⚠️ Recruitment safety

Never pay a fee just because someone promises a job. Verify the hospital, get a written offer and contract, and check any recruitment charges through official channels before paying.

FAQs

How long does it take to get a DHA nursing licence?

It depends mostly on DataFlow verification and exam booking. Many nurses take a few months from opening a Sheryan account to holding a licence, so start before you begin applying.

Can I apply to Dubai hospitals without a DHA licence?

Yes, some hospitals interview licence-pending nurses and support them through the process, but an active licence or a passed exam makes you much easier to hire.

Is a GNM diploma enough to work as a nurse in Dubai?

Some employers accept a diploma with enough experience, but many registered nurse posts prefer a BSc Nursing. Check the eligibility on Sheryan for your exact qualification.

Is a nurse's salary in Dubai taxed?

No. The UAE does not charge personal income tax on salaries.
