Foundations, utility trenches, road widening, drainage, demolition clean-up: before anything is built, someone has to dig accurately and safely. Wheel vs. crawler excavators
Wheeled excavators move quickly on roads and suit city utility work. Crawler (chain) excavators are heavier, more stable and better on soft or uneven ground, which is why infrastructure and earthworks contractors prefer them. This employer specifically wanted crawler experience, so if you have both, list the crawler machines first with their weight class (for example 20-tonne or 30-tonne).
Skills site engineers look for
- Digging to level. Following grade stakes, laser levels or GPS machine control so the trench or formation is at the right depth the first time.
- Slope and trench safety. Battering back or using shoring, keeping spoil away from the edge.
- Underground services. Respecting permits to dig, trial pits and marked cables or pipes. UAE sites are full of live services, and a cable strike is the fastest way to lose a job.
- Attachments. Bucket changes, hydraulic breaker work and quick couplers.
- Loading. Loading tippers efficiently without spilling or overloading.

Licence and paperwork in the UAE
Operating heavy equipment in the UAE needs a UAE licence for that category. The UAE government portal lists licence categories and minimum ages, and in Abu Dhabi licensing is handled by the Integrated Transport Centre. Many foreign licences cannot be exchanged directly, which is why this circular asked for a UAE licence holder. If you are applying from India without one, look for employers who will put you through the local licensing process and ask who pays for it.
Summer working hours

Examiners watch three things: smooth control (no jerky boom movements), accuracy against the pegs or string line, and safety habits such as checking the swing area and never swinging the bucket over people.
