Electrician CV Format for Gulf Jobs 2026: SVP Test, Skills, Salary

An electrician CV for the Gulf is read in under a minute. The person reading it is usually a recruitment agent in Mumbai, Kochi or Delhi who has 200 other CVs for the same demand letter. If your CV does not show the right trade title, the voltage you have worked on, your passport details and your Gulf experience on the first page, it goes to the bottom of the pile.

This guide shows exactly what to put in an electrician CV for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain in 2026: the job titles employers search for, ready bullet points you can adapt, the skill test Saudi Arabia now asks for, and real salary figures from vacancies that are open on Resume Arab right now.

Which electrician job title should you use?

Gulf employers do not hire "electricians" in general. A demand letter names one exact trade, and your CV title should match it word for word. The common ones are:

  • Building Electrician – wiring, DB installation, lighting and power points in residential and commercial buildings.
  • Industrial Electrician – motors, MCCs, control panels and cable trays in plants, factories and oil and gas sites.
  • Maintenance Electrician – fault finding and preventive maintenance in hotels, malls, hospitals and facility management companies.
  • Cable Jointer / Cable Tray Fitter – LV and MV cable laying, glanding, termination and tray installation.
  • Electrical Foreman – leads a gang of electricians and helpers, reads drawings, handles material requests and daily progress.
  • Assistant Electrician / Electrical Helper – for freshers and helpers with one or two years of site work.

If you have done two of these, pick the one that matches the vacancy and mention the second in your summary. One CV per trade is better than one CV that tries to be everything.

The Gulf electrician CV format, section by section

Keep it to two pages. Use a plain layout that an agent can read on a phone and that an applicant tracking system can read without errors.

  1. Header – full name as in passport, trade title, WhatsApp number with country code, email, current location.
  2. Passport and personal details – passport number, date of issue and expiry, place of issue, date of birth, nationality, ECR or ECNR status (for Indian passports), and marital status. Gulf employers expect these on a CV, unlike in Europe.
  3. Professional summary – three lines: years of experience, type of sites, the highest voltage you have worked on, and your strongest skill.
  4. Work experience – latest job first. Company, country, city, dates (month and year), and four to six bullet points per job.
  5. Technical skills – a short list of tools, systems and standards.
  6. Education and certificates – ITI, NCVT, diploma, Saudi SVP certificate, safety training, and licence numbers.
  7. Languages – English, Hindi, Arabic level. Even basic Arabic helps on site.

A clear photo with a plain background is normal for Gulf CVs. Do not use a selfie.

Bullet points you can adapt

Agents shortlist CVs that prove what you did, with numbers. Copy the pattern, not the words, and change the details to your own work:

  • Installed and terminated LV cables up to 240 sq mm and wired 60+ distribution boards for a 14-floor residential tower.
  • Carried out conduit, trunking and cable tray installation as per approved shop drawings and the consultant's inspection checklist.
  • Tested circuits with insulation resistance (megger) and continuity tests before energising, and recorded the results in test sheets.
  • Traced and repaired faults in motor control circuits, starters and contactors, reducing breakdown time on the production line.
  • Installed lighting, emergency lighting and small power for a 300-room hotel fit-out, working with the MEP supervisor and the client's engineer.
  • Followed permit-to-work and lock-out tag-out on every live panel job, with zero lost-time incidents over three years.

If you were a foreman, add numbers about people: "Led a team of 12 electricians and helpers and kept daily progress on schedule."

Skills and keywords Gulf employers look for

Agents and applicant tracking systems scan for these words. Use only the ones that are true for you:

  • LV and MV cable laying, glanding and termination
  • Distribution boards (DB), MDB, SMDB, MCC panels
  • Conduit, trunking, cable tray and ladder installation
  • Reading electrical drawings and single line diagrams
  • Megger, multimeter and clamp meter testing
  • Motor starters, contactors, relays, VFD basics
  • Lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm interface
  • Permit-to-work, lock-out tag-out, working at height
  • IEC standards and local authority rules (DEWA, KAHRAMAA, SEC, MEW) if you have worked under them

Saudi Arabia: the Skill Verification test for electricians

If you are applying for an electrician visa to Saudi Arabia from India, your CV alone is no longer enough. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources runs a Skill Verification Program (SVP) with a written and a practical exam, and a pass is linked to the work visa for listed trades. Reports on the India rollout said the test was compulsory for 19 job categories in its first phase, and building electrician, automotive electrician, plumber, welder and pipe fitter were on that list (Arabian Business). The exams are run in India through approved centres with NSDC and Takamol, Saudi Arabia's assessment partner (Gulf News explainer). The Saudi ministry has since extended its professional verification service to 160 labour-sending countries (Gulf News).

What this means for your CV:

  • Put your SVP result in the certificates section with the trade name exactly as on the certificate and the date of the test.
  • Make sure your CV title is the same trade as the SVP certificate. A "Building Electrician" certificate with an "Industrial Electrician" CV title makes the agent stop and ask questions.
  • If you have not taken the test yet, write "SVP test: ready to appear" instead of leaving it out. The agent then knows you understand the process.

The list of trades and the rules change from time to time, so check with your agent or on the Qiwa portal before you book a test. Last checked: October 2026.

Real electrician salaries in live Gulf vacancies

Salary is the first thing every worker asks, so here are real figures from vacancies posted on Resume Arab on 7 October 2026, taken from the employers' own circulars:

Vacancy Employer Country Monthly salary
Building Electrician Galfar Qatar Qatar QAR 1,050 – 1,600
Assistant Electrician / Electrical Helper Galfar Qatar Qatar QAR 1,000
Electrician HEISCO Kuwait Kuwait KWD 140
Electrical Foreman HEISCO Kuwait Kuwait KWD 220 – 240

Two things stand out. First, the gap between electrician and foreman pay is large, so if you have supervised even a small team, say so clearly on your CV. Second, the same trade pays differently in each country, so compare the full package (food, room, transport, overtime) and not only the basic. For UAE figures, see our electrician salary guide for Dubai, and check any offer with the free salary check tool.

Mistakes that get electrician CVs rejected

  • No voltage or site type. "Electrician – 5 years" tells the agent nothing. "LV installation, 5 years, high-rise residential and hotel fit-out" gets a call.
  • Wrong or mixed job title. "Electrician cum Plumber cum AC Technician" looks like a helper CV. Choose one trade per CV.
  • Missing passport details. Without passport number and expiry, the agent cannot check if you can travel in time for the client interview.
  • Gaps with no reason. If you were home for a year, write one line: "Family reasons, available to join immediately."
  • Fake experience. Trade tests and SVP exams find it in minutes. One failed practical test can block you for that employer for a long time.

How the trade test and interview usually go

Most Gulf electrician interviews are a short talk plus a practical test. Expect to wire a switch and socket circuit or a two-way lighting circuit, identify cable sizes and breaker ratings, and use a megger or multimeter in front of the tester. The interviewer will ask about the biggest project you worked on, the panels you have handled, and how you isolate a live circuit safely.

Prepare short answers to the most common questions with our free interview questions tool, and keep your ITI or diploma certificate, experience letters and SVP result in one folder, both on paper and on your phone.

Before you fly: documents and clearance

If your Indian passport is ECR, your agent must get emigration clearance on the eMigrate system before you travel to any Gulf country (MEA – Emigration Clearance System). Only a registered recruiting agent can do this, so never pay anyone who is not on eMigrate. Our guide on ECR passports and eMigrate explains every step in simple words.

FAQ

What is the best CV format for an electrician job in the Gulf?

A two-page, reverse-chronological CV with your trade title at the top, passport details, a three-line summary, job-wise bullet points with numbers, a skills list, and certificates. Add a clear photo. Keep the layout simple so it opens well on a phone.

Do I need the Saudi SVP certificate for an electrician visa?

For trades on the Saudi Skill Verification list, including building electrician, Indian candidates have had to pass the SVP exam before the work visa. Confirm the current trade list with your agent or on Qiwa before you apply.

How much does an electrician earn in Qatar and Kuwait?

In vacancies posted on Resume Arab in October 2026, a building electrician in Qatar was offered QAR 1,050–1,600 a month and an electrician in Kuwait KWD 140, while an electrical foreman in Kuwait was offered KWD 220–240. Packages also include food, accommodation or transport in many cases.

Should I write my ITI marks on the CV?

No. Write the trade, the institute, NCVT or SCVT, and the year. Marks are not needed unless the employer asks.
