Oilfield camps in Kuwait run on rice, sambar and strong tea. A large share of the crews are from South India, and a good South Indian cook keeps morale up on long 7-day weeks far from home. Catering contractors therefore hire cooks who can produce idli, dosa, rasam and a full thali for hundreds of people, on time, every day. This guide breaks down a real May 2026 circular for a Kuwait oilfield catering project, explains how the KWD 176 package is built, and shows what to prepare before you apply.
The May 2026 package, line by line

| What you get | Amount / detail |
|---|---|
| Basic salary | KWD 110 a month |
| Fixed overtime | KWD 66 a month |
| Monthly total | KWD 176 |
| Food | Free (camp mess) |
| Housing and transport | HRA & TA provided |
| Duty | 10 hours plus a 1-hour break, 7 days a week |
The Kuwaiti dinar is one of the strongest currencies in the world. At roughly βΉ310 per dinar, KWD 176 is about βΉ54,500 a month. Indeed India's average for cooks was about βΉ17,178 a month when we checked, so the camp job pays around three times as much, and you spend almost nothing on food or rent.
Notice that KWD 66 of the 176 is overtime. Overtime depends on hours worked, and end-of-service benefits in Kuwait are calculated on basic pay, so your benefits will be based on the KWD 110, not the full amount. Ask the employer to confirm the overtime is guaranteed every month.

Documents you need before you can fly
This circular made three checks compulsory:
- Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from your passport office.
- GAMCA medical at an approved centre in India.
- Oil company medical for the project, done as part of the client's site entry rules.
Start the PCC early; it can take weeks in some districts. Keep your passport valid for well over a year.
A typical day in a camp kitchen
- 3:00β5:00 am: steam idli, make dosa and pongal, boil sambar and two chutneys, tea and coffee for the first shift.
- 6:00β10:00 am: prepare lunch boxes or the lunch line: rice, sambar or rasam, a gravy curry, a dry vegetable, curd and pickle.
- Afternoon: grind batter for the next morning, cut vegetables, receive and check deliveries.
- Evening: dinner service, often chapati with curries, then cleaning and closing down.
Cooks rotate stations, so be ready to help the continental or North Indian section on busy days.
Rules that shape the job in Kuwait
Food handler health card. Kuwait requires everyone who handles food to hold a valid health certificate, and in 2026 the authorities reminded food businesses to enforce it along with storage and transport hygiene rules, as ARY News reported. Your employer arranges it after arrival; keep it renewed.
Summer heat. The Public Authority for Manpower bans outdoor work in the sun from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm between 1 June and 31 August. In 2026 PAM warned that companies breaking the ban could have their files suspended, according to Gulf News. Kitchen staff work indoors, but deliveries and lunch-box dispatch are planned around those hours.
Hiring trend. Live listings on Indeed Kuwait's catering jobs page show steady demand for cooks with large-volume experience in camp and industrial catering.

How to impress at the cooking test
Catering contractors often ask candidates to cook in front of the chef. Common tasks are a sambar, a dry vegetable poriyal and dosa or chapati. The examiner looks at:
- Taste and consistency: the same result every time, not just once.
- Speed: can you work in bulk without burning the bottom of the pot?
- Hygiene: clean apron, cap, gloves where needed, no tasting with the stirring spoon.
- Costing sense: not wasting oil, coconut or vegetables.
Bring your experience letters showing the number of people you cooked for. "Cooked for 400 workers a day at a construction camp" is a much stronger line than "cook".
