HSE Officer CV for UAE Jobs: NEBOSH, OSHAD and More

HSE Officer CV for UAE Jobs: NEBOSH, OSHAD and More

An HSE officer CV for the UAE gets checked against one line first: certification. Most UAE postings ask for the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or an equivalent, and many Abu Dhabi roles also expect knowledge of the OSHAD framework. Once you pass that filter, the recruiter looks for proof that you actually reduced risk on site: numbers of inspections, toolbox talks, incident rates and audits. This guide shows how to present all of it.

What UAE employers ask for in HSE officer roles

From current UAE job postings, the requirements repeat:

  • NEBOSH IGC or equivalent, often marked mandatory. An Abu Dhabi role on ExpertHR's careers page asks for NEBOSH IGC or an equivalent qualification, and other postings list it as required or highly preferred.
  • 2 to 5+ years of HSE experience, depending on seniority.
  • Knowledge of UAE regulations: OSHAD codes of practice in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Municipality and Civil Defence requirements in Dubai.
  • Extra certificates as advantages: IOSH Managing Safely, OSHA 30-hour, ISO 45001 lead auditor, first aid.
  • Client approvals in oil and gas: some Abu Dhabi roles need ADNOC approval as an HSE officer.

Certifications: how to list them correctly

Put certifications directly under your name or in a highlighted block on page one, because recruiters filter by them.

  • NEBOSH IGC: The NEBOSH International General Certificate is the most requested HSE qualification in the Gulf. Write the full name, year and certificate number.
  • ISO 45001: If you worked in or audited an occupational health and safety management system, name the standard (ISO 45001) and your role: internal auditor, lead auditor or implementer.
  • IOSH: IOSH Managing Safely is a common add-on for supervisors; IOSH membership grades (such as Tech IOSH) are useful for senior roles.
  • Local: OSHAD-registered practitioner status (Abu Dhabi), ADNOC approval, Civil Defence fire safety training.

Never list a certificate as completed if you have only enrolled. UAE employers often verify certificates directly with the awarding body.

OSHAD and emirate rules: why they belong on your CV

Abu Dhabi runs its occupational safety system through the OSHAD framework, managed by the Abu Dhabi Environment, Health and Safety Center. Contractors working in Abu Dhabi must follow its codes of practice, so a line such as Implemented OSHAD-SF codes of practice for working at height, confined spaces and heat stress tells an Abu Dhabi employer you can start without training. In Dubai, mention Dubai Municipality and Civil Defence requirements you handled. If you have only worked outside the UAE, say which international standards you followed and that you are familiar with OSHAD.

Heat stress is a UAE-specific topic worth mentioning: the midday work break in summer is a real site rule, and HSE officers who planned heat-stress controls should say so.

CV format for an HSE officer

Two pages is right for most HSE officers.

  1. Header: HSE Officer, Construction and Oil and Gas, NEBOSH IGC, 6 Years (4 in UAE), phone with country code, WhatsApp, email, nationality, visa status, notice period, UAE driving licence.
  2. Certification block: NEBOSH IGC, IOSH, ISO 45001, first aid, ADNOC approval.
  3. Summary: three lines with your sector, project size and safety results.
  4. Experience: employer, project, man-hours and your responsibilities with numbers.
  5. Education, languages, computer skills.

Bullet points with real numbers

Adapt these to your own records:

  • Conducted daily site inspections across a 2,400-worker construction site and closed 1,150 observations within agreed timelines.
  • Delivered 300+ toolbox talks in English, Hindi and Urdu on working at height, lifting operations and heat stress.
  • Reviewed and approved permits to work for hot work, confined space entry and excavations, averaging 40 permits a day.
  • Investigated 18 incidents using root cause analysis, issued corrective actions and tracked closure to 100%.
  • Helped the project reach 3.1 million safe man-hours without a lost-time injury.
  • Prepared risk assessments and method statements for crane lifts, scaffolding and energised electrical work.
  • Ran monthly emergency drills (fire, evacuation, rescue at height), cutting full evacuation time from 9 to 6 minutes.
  • Supported an ISO 45001 surveillance audit with zero major non-conformities.

For electrical safety work, our electrician CV guide shows how site technicians describe isolation and testing, which helps you speak their language.

Skills and keywords for UAE HSE CVs

  • Systems: ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHAD-SF, HSE plan, HSE management system
  • Controls: permit to work, LOTO, JSA/JHA, HIRA, risk assessment, method statements
  • Activities: inspections, audits, toolbox talks, incident investigation, RCA, emergency drills
  • Topics: working at height, lifting operations, scaffolding, excavation, confined space, heat stress, fire safety
  • Reporting: LTI, TRIR, man-hours, leading and lagging indicators

Mistakes that get HSE CVs rejected

  • No certificate details (name, year, number).
  • Duties only, no results or numbers.
  • Claiming "zero accidents" without saying for how many man-hours or how long.
  • A generic summary that could fit any job.
  • Missing languages. Multilingual toolbox talks are valuable on Gulf sites, so list every language you speak.

Interview questions to prepare

  • Walk us through how you would investigate a fall from height.
  • What is in a confined space entry permit, and who signs it?
  • How do you manage heat stress during summer site work?
  • What leading indicators do you track, and why?
  • A supervisor ignores your stop-work instruction. What do you do?

FAQ

Is NEBOSH mandatory for HSE officer jobs in the UAE?

Many postings list NEBOSH IGC as mandatory, and others accept an equivalent qualification. It is the safest certificate to hold for UAE HSE roles.

What is OSHAD and do I need it on my CV?

OSHAD is Abu Dhabi's occupational safety and health framework. If you are applying in Abu Dhabi, showing that you know and have applied its codes of practice is a strong advantage.

How many years of experience do UAE HSE officer roles need?

Postings range from about 2 years for junior officers to 5 years or more for senior roles. Oil and gas roles often ask for more and may require client approval.

Should I list IOSH and OSHA if I already have NEBOSH?

Yes. They are often listed as advantages and show continued learning. Keep NEBOSH first because it is usually the screening requirement.
