Gulf Work Visa Checklist 2026: Every Document, Country by Country

Gulf Work Visa Checklist 2026: Every Document, Country by Country

Missing one document can delay a Gulf work visa by weeks. Resume Arab's Visa Checklist Tool, live at resumearab.ai/tools/visa-checklist, turns the confusing back-and-forth of "what do I actually need?" into a simple, tickable list.

Universal Checklist β€” Needed for Every GCC Country

  • Valid passport (6+ months validity remaining)
  • Passport-size photographs (white background)
  • Signed employment offer / contract
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
  • Educational / trade certificates (attested)
  • Visa stamping / entry permit
  • Air ticket confirmation
  • Vaccination / health certificate (if required by that country at the time)

Country-Specific Residency ID β€” What You Apply for After Arrival

Every GCC country converts your entry visa into a local residency ID once you land and complete formalities. The document changes name by country, but the underlying step is the same:

  • UAE β€” Emirates ID: applied for after arrival, alongside your residence-visa stamping process.
  • Saudi Arabia β€” Iqama: your entry visa is converted after arrival, via a medical exam, biometric registration, and employer submission through Absher and the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) (Source: Middle East Briefing, Q1 2026 update β€” last checked September 2026).
  • Qatar β€” QID (Qatar ID): the official residence and identity card for every legal resident, including work-visa holders; status can be checked via MOI e-services or the Metrash2 app (last checked September 2026).
  • Kuwait β€” Civil ID (via PACI): required within 30 days of arrival under Kuwait's PAM-overseen labour rules.
  • Bahrain β€” CPR card (via LMRA): required within 30 days of arrival, BHD 10 fee.
  • Oman β€” Resident Card (via Sanad service centres): valid for up to 10 years at OMR 5/year, with a 30-day renewal/processing window.

The medical: now called Wafid

The GCC medical that agents still call "GAMCA" now runs on the Wafid platform. Fragomen reported in June 2026 that only GCC-approved medical centres can carry out Wafid examinations and that results are uploaded straight to the electronic system before visa processing moves forward. Book only through the official platform, keep your appointment slip, and do not let anyone take the medical "on your behalf". If you are found unfit, ask about the official grievance process rather than paying someone who promises to change the result.

Your home country's exit step

Many workers forget that their own government also has a step before departure. For Indian passport holders with an ECR (Emigration Check Required) endorsement, going for work to any of the ECR countries listed by the Ministry of External Affairs, including all six GCC states, needs eMigrate clearance. That clearance comes with the mandatory Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana insurance: β‚Ή10 lakh accident and disability cover for a one-time β‚Ή275 (two years) or β‚Ή375 (three years). Workers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Indonesia have their own equivalents, and the tool adds the right item when you pick your home country.

Attestation in plain words

"Attested certificates" means your degree or trade certificate carries official stamps proving it is genuine: first from the issuing board or state, then from your foreign ministry, then from the Gulf country's side as required. Not every job needs it. Helpers and labourers often do not; nurses, engineers, teachers and accountants almost always do. Ask your employer which documents must be attested before you spend money on it.

How long each step usually takes

Every case is different, but this rough guide helps you plan:

Step Typical time
Police Clearance Certificate 1 to 4 weeks, depending on your district
Certificate attestation 2 to 6 weeks, if needed
Wafid medical and result A few days to two weeks
Visa processing and stamping 1 to 4 weeks after documents are complete
Emigration clearance (ECR passports) A few days once the visa and contract are uploaded

Start the slowest items first (PCC and attestation) as soon as you have a written offer. Many delays happen because one small document was left until the end.

Red flags in the visa process

  • Someone asks you to travel on a visit or tourist visa and "convert it later" into a work visa.
  • The job title on the visa does not match your trade or the offer letter.
  • An agent wants your original passport but will not give a written receipt.
  • You are asked to pay for the visa itself; in most GCC countries, work visa costs are the employer's responsibility.
  • The offer letter has no company name, no salary breakdown or no contract length.

If you see any of these, stop and verify the employer through official channels before going further.

Use the Interactive Checklist

The tool at /tools/visa-checklist lets you tick off each document as you gather it, with a live counter ("X / 10 ready") so you always know exactly how far along you are β€” useful to screenshot and send your agent, or just to keep yourself organized before travel.

FAQs

Is this checklist the same for every employer?

The universal list above applies broadly, but some employers or specific visa categories (e.g. domestic work, certain skilled trades) add extra requirements β€” always confirm the exact list with your recruiting agent or employer before travel.

What if my Police Clearance Certificate takes time to arrive?

Start it early β€” PCC processing is often the slowest step in the checklist, and many employers won't finalize visa stamping without it.

Does completing this checklist guarantee my visa is approved?

No β€” this is a document-readiness checklist, not a visa application itself. Final approval always sits with the relevant country's immigration authority.

Is the Wafid medical the same as GAMCA?

Yes. GAMCA was the old name; the GCC medical now runs through the Wafid platform at approved centres.
