Carpentry is one of the most hired trades in Dubai, but "carpenter" covers very different jobs: shuttering carpenters on high-rise sites, finishing carpenters fitting doors and wardrobes, and joinery workers in furniture factories. Pay, working conditions and the trade test all depend on which one you are. This guide gives you the real 2026 numbers, explains what changes your package, and shows how to prepare for the trade test and write a CV that recruiters shortlist.
Carpenter salary in Dubai in 2026

- Indeed UAE: the Dubai carpenter salary page shows an average base of about AED 1,809 a month, from more than 600 reported salaries. A carpenter foreman averages about AED 3,550.
- Naukrigulf: Naukrigulf's carpenter salary data reports a range of about AED 1,900–5,000, with an average near AED 2,785 and higher pay for carpenters with 12+ years.
- India: Indeed India's national average was about ₹26,919 a month when we last checked.
Most site carpenters in Dubai earn a basic of roughly AED 1,800–3,000 a month, usually with free accommodation, transport and sometimes food. Foremen, finishing specialists on luxury fit-out jobs and joinery workers with machine skills earn more. Because accommodation is often provided, the money you can actually save can be much higher than the basic suggests.

Which carpentry pays more

- Shuttering / formwork carpenter. The largest group on construction sites. Pay sits near the market average, with overtime common during concrete pours.
- Finishing / fit-out carpenter. Doors, frames, skirting, wardrobes and wall panelling in villas, hotels and offices. Quality work on high-end projects pays above average.
- Joinery / furniture carpenter. Factory work with panel saws, CNC routers and edge banders. Machine skills raise pay.
- Carpenter foreman. Runs a gang, reads drawings and plans materials. Indeed shows foremen averaging roughly double the basic carpenter rate.
What employers check
- Drawing reading: levels, dimensions, sections and setting out.
- Formwork systems: traditional timber formwork, and system formwork such as table forms or climbing systems on high-rise jobs.
- Tools: power tools, saws, routers, laser levels, and safe use of each.
- Safety: working at height, scaffolding rules, PPE.
- Heat: outdoor work in summer follows the UAE midday break. In 2026, MoHRE banned outdoor work in direct sun from 12:30 to 3:00 pm between 15 June and 15 September, so expect early starts and shifted hours in summer.

Moving up from carpenter
The usual career path in Dubai is carpenter, then senior carpenter or chargehand, then carpenter foreman. Foremen read drawings, plan materials and run a gang of carpenters and helpers, and Indeed's figures show they earn roughly double the basic rate. To get there, learn system formwork, take a working-at-height or scaffolding course, and keep a short record of the projects you finished on time. Some finishing carpenters later move into fit-out supervision or open their own joinery work back home.
How to pass the carpenter trade test
Most Gulf recruiters run a practical trade test before selection. Typical tasks:
- Shuttering: build a small column or beam box to the given size, square and plumb, with correct bracing.
- Finishing: cut and fix a door frame or make a simple mortise-and-tenon joint with clean edges.
- Measuring: read a drawing and mark out cuts with no wasted material.
Practise with the tools you will be given, bring your own tape measure if allowed, and work safely. Examiners watch how you handle the saw as much as the final piece.
Visa and joining process
After selection, your employer sponsors the UAE work visa through MOHRE. Expect an entry permit, medical fitness test after arrival, Emirates ID biometrics and residence visa stamping. Read the offer letter carefully: basic salary, overtime rate, accommodation, transport, food and working hours should all be written in it.
A carpenter CV that gets shortlisted
- Trade type first: "Shuttering Carpenter", "Finishing Carpenter" or "Joinery Carpenter", not just "Carpenter".
- Projects: type and height of building, for example "G+20 residential tower, slab and column formwork".
- Systems and tools: timber formwork, aluminium or table forms, power tools, CNC router if any.
- Certificates: ITI Carpentry or trade certificate, safety training, working-at-height training.
- Gulf experience: country and years, if you have it.
- Keywords: formwork, shuttering, setting out, drawing reading, door fixing, joinery, finishing, safety.
Keep it to one or two pages. Our CV templates work well for trade CVs, and you can check what an offer is worth with the salary check tool and currency converter.
Common mistakes
- Writing only "Carpenter" without the type of carpentry.
- No project details, so the recruiter cannot judge your level.
- Accepting an offer without checking overtime and accommodation terms in writing.
⚠️ Recruitment safety
Never pay a fee just because someone promises a job. Verify the employer, get a written offer and contract, and check any recruitment charges through official channels before paying.
