Pakistan sends more workers to the Gulf than almost any other country, and 2026 has been no exception. Recruiters in Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Peshawar see hundreds of CVs for every batch of visas. The CV that gets picked is not the fanciest one. It is the one that tells an agent or a Gulf employer, in a few seconds, what trade you do, how long you have done it and that your documents are in order.
The numbers behind Pakistan's Gulf migration
Official figures released by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE) show 317,436 Pakistanis left for jobs abroad between January and June 2026. Saudi Arabia took 183,951 of them and the UAE 50,773, followed by Qatar with 34,025 and Bahrain with 13,329. Almost all registered through BE&OE (316,848), with a small number placed through the Overseas Employment Corporation (Express Tribune).
For the whole of 2025, the bureau registered 762,499 workers, with Saudi Arabia hiring 530,256 Pakistanis and the UAE 52,664 (Gulf News). The flow continued despite the regional conflict that began in late February 2026 (Asia News Network).
What this means for you: Saudi Arabia is the biggest market by a wide margin, so if your trade is in demand there, prepare your CV with Saudi employers in mind first.
Go through a licensed promoter
Most Pakistani workers reach the Gulf through an Overseas Employment Promoter (OEP) licensed by BE&OE, and complete emigration formalities including registration with the Protector of Emigrants before departure. You can check the bureau's information and services on its official site (BE&OE). Never pay an unlicensed agent or hand your original passport to someone without a receipt. A CV does not protect you from fraud; a licensed promoter and an official registration do.
What a Gulf recruiter wants to see on page one
Agents shortlist fast. Put these facts where the eye lands first:
- Trade title exactly as it appears in Gulf job adverts: "Electrician", "Steel Fixer", "Heavy Duty Driver", "Accountant".
- Total years of experience in that trade, and how many of those years were in the Gulf, if any.
- Passport status: valid until which month and year. Gulf visas generally need a passport with plenty of validity left.
- Licences and certificates: driving licence category, trade test certificate, technical diploma.
- Age and availability: many circulars state age limits and joining dates.
A CV layout that works for trades
Top block. Name, trade title, mobile and WhatsApp number, city, email if you have one.
Key facts line. "Electrician โ 7 years (3 years in Saudi Arabia) โ Passport valid to 2031 โ Available immediately."
Experience. Most recent first. Company name, city and country, dates, then two lines on what you did with sizes and tools: "Installed DB panels and wiring for 120-flat residential towers; read single-line diagrams; worked with 8-person crew."
Skills. Tools, machines and systems: "MIG/TIG welding", "AutoCAD basics", "Tally", "forklift up to 5 tonnes".
Education and training. Matric, intermediate, DAE, B.Tech or degree; TEVTA or other trade certificates.
Languages. Urdu, English and any Arabic. Even basic Arabic is worth listing for Saudi and Qatar roles.
Keep it to one page for trades. Office roles with longer careers can use two.
White-collar applicants
Accountants, engineers, IT staff and sales executives from Pakistan compete with applicants from across Asia. For these roles, add a three-line summary with your specialism and a measurable achievement, list software by name (SAP, Oracle, Primavera, Revit), and mention professional bodies such as ICAP or PEC membership if you hold them. Gulf employers in engineering often ask whether you can register with the local engineering authority, so state your degree title and university clearly.
Matching your CV to a circular
Most Gulf vacancies reach Pakistani workers as a circular from a promoter: a list of trades, salaries, age limits and required experience. Read it carefully and adjust your CV before you send it:
- Use the trade title from the circular, not a local name for the job.
- If the circular asks for "GCC experience", put your Gulf years in the first line.
- If it asks for a specific licence or certificate, list that item first under certificates.
- If there is an age limit, make sure your date of birth is easy to find.
This takes five minutes per application and noticeably raises your chance of being called for the trade test.
Mistakes that get Pakistani CVs rejected
- Writing "Helper/Electrician/Plumber/Driver" all in one title. Pick your main trade and make a separate CV for another.
- No Gulf-ready experience line. If you have worked in the Gulf, say where and for how long on the first line.
- Missing passport validity. Agents need it immediately.
- Photos of certificates pasted inside the CV. Send certificates as separate files.
- Phone switched off or WhatsApp full. Agents move to the next candidate within hours.
Before your trade test or interview
Gulf employers and their agents often run a practical trade test in Pakistan. Practise the basic tasks of your trade with the tools you will be given, bring your original certificates, and be ready to answer simple questions in English or Arabic about safety. For drivers, carry your licence and be ready for a road test.
