How to Write a Cover Letter for UAE Jobs (With Example)

How to Write a Cover Letter for UAE Jobs (With Example)

A good cover letter for UAE jobs is short, specific and tailored: four paragraphs that say which role you want, the two or three results that prove you can do it, why this employer, and when you can join. Most Dubai and Abu Dhabi recruiters skim the opening lines first, so the first paragraph decides whether the rest is read. Below is the structure, a full sample, what to leave out, and a checklist.

Do UAE employers still read cover letters?

Not always. Many job portals and agencies only ask for a CV. But a cover letter helps when:

  • the posting asks for one,
  • you are changing industry or country and need to explain why,
  • you are applying directly to a company email or careers page, or
  • you have a strong reason the CV cannot show, such as a transferable visa or a relevant UAE project.

Recruiter guides such as Labeeb's Dubai cover letter guide make the same point: recruiters scan quickly, so a focused opening matters more than length.

The 4-part structure that works in the UAE

1. Opening: role, source and headline proof (2–3 lines). Name the exact job title, where you saw it, and your strongest matching fact.

2. Evidence: two or three results (4–6 lines). Pick results that match the posting's top requirements. Use numbers.

3. Why this company (2–3 lines). Mention something specific: a project, a new branch, a service line. Show you did not send the same letter to 200 companies.

4. Practical close (2–3 lines). Visa status, notice period, availability for interview, and a thank-you.

Keep the whole letter under one page, around 250–350 words.

A full sample cover letter

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Store Supervisor position advertised on your careers page. I have 6 years of retail operations experience, including 3 years running a 1,200 mΒ² store in Sharjah with monthly sales of around AED 900,000.

In my current role I cut stock shrinkage from 1.8% to 0.9% by introducing weekly cycle counts and CCTV reviews, and I trained 14 new staff on POS and customer service. Our store moved from 7th to 3rd in the group's customer satisfaction ranking within one year.

Your expansion into new community malls in Dubai is the kind of growth I want to be part of. I have opened one new branch before and know how much the first 90 days depend on hiring and stock planning.

I am on a UAE residence visa with a 30-day notice period and can attend an interview at your convenience. My CV is attached. Thank you for your time.

Yours sincerely, [Name] | [Phone with +971] | [Email]

Change every number to your own. A letter with invented results will fall apart in the interview.

What NOT to put in a UAE cover letter

  • Religion, caste, or ethnic background. The UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021) prohibits discrimination in employment on grounds such as race, colour, sex, religion, national origin and disability, as described by Gulf News and in this Mondaq legal summary. These details do not belong in a job application.
  • Salary demands in the first paragraph. Mention expectations only if the posting asks for them, and then near the end.
  • A photo. Photos go on the CV if at all, not in the letter.
  • Copy-paste from templates. Recruiters see the same phrases ("I am writing to express my keen interest") all day.
  • Long life stories. Keep the letter about the job.

Tailoring in 10 minutes

  1. Copy the posting's top three requirements into a note.
  2. For each, write one result from your work that proves it.
  3. Find one fact about the company from its website or LinkedIn.
  4. Fill the four-part structure.
  5. Read it aloud once; cut every sentence that does not help.
  6. Check spelling of the company name and the hiring manager's name.

Use the same keywords as the posting (for example "inventory control", "POS", "team leadership"), because many UAE employers run applications through software that matches keywords.

Cover letters for blue-collar and skilled trades

For drivers, technicians, cooks and helpers, a full letter is rarely needed. A short 4–5 line message in the email or WhatsApp is better:

Hello, I am applying for Heavy Driver. I have 5 years of trailer driving experience in Saudi Arabia and hold a valid GCC heavy licence. My passport is valid for 6 years and I can travel within 2 weeks. CV attached. Thank you.

Short, clear and with the facts the employer checks first: licence, experience, passport, availability.

Using the Resume Arab cover letter feature

Resume Arab can generate a cover letter in English or Arabic from the details you enter in the CV builder, so the letter and CV match. Read how it works in our AI cover letter guide. Always edit the draft to add the company-specific line from step 3; generated text is a starting point, not the final letter.

If the job is in a different emirate or country, check your budget first with the cost of living calculator so the salary you mention is realistic.

Checklist before you send

  • Job title written exactly as in the posting
  • Two or three numbered results
  • One company-specific sentence
  • Visa status and notice period
  • No religion, ethnic background, or photo
  • Under one page; saved as PDF with your name in the file name
  • Phone number with country code

FAQ

How long should a cover letter be for a Dubai job?

Under one page, about 250–350 words in four short paragraphs. Recruiters scan quickly, so shorter and specific beats long and general.

Should I write my cover letter in Arabic?

Write in the language of the posting. Most private-sector jobs in Dubai use English. If the posting is in Arabic, or the employer is a government entity that prefers Arabic, an Arabic letter can help.

Should I mention salary in my UAE cover letter?

Only if the posting asks. If it does, give a realistic range near the end of the letter and mention whether you expect accommodation and transport.

Can I use the same cover letter for every job?

Use the same structure, but change the opening, the results and the company line for every application. Generic letters are easy to spot.
